Prime Video has debuted the first preview for Scarpetta,” a new crime drama series debuting March 11, starring Nicole Kidman as forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta.

The series draws from Patricia Cornwell’s long-running Kay Scarpetta novels – beginning with Postmortem, which was inspired in part by a series of high-profile murders in Richmond, Virginia, where most of the stories are set – and follows the central character as she reopens an investigation that shaped her professional life nearly three decades earlier. Now returning to her hometown and resuming work in her former role, Scarpetta examines a new homicide while confronting unresolved questions tied to the earlier case.

Structured across two periods – the late 1990s and the present day – the narrative moves between Scarpetta’s early career and her current responsibilities. The storyline examines both the forensic process and the broader investigative framework, including the behavioral analysis of suspects and the procedural demands placed on those working within the justice system.

Jamie Lee Curtis co-stars as Dorothy Farinelli, Scarpetta’s sister, whose relationship with the title character forms a key part of the personal storyline. Bobby Cannavale plays Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker takes on the role of FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose portrays Lucy Watson, Scarpetta’s niece, who brings technical expertise to the investigative team.

Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish feature as earlier-life counterparts to the principal characters, reflecting the series’ dual-period structure.

“Scarpetta” premieres March 11 on Prime Video.
