Ari Aster’s ‘Eddington’ Trailer Teases Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal Face Off in Tense Western Dramedy

A24 has topday dropped a full trailer for Eddington, the upcoming contemporary Western black comedy directed by Ari Aster (MidsommarHereditary) which recently received its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix (JokerGladiator) as a small-town sheriff and Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us,” Gladiator II) as the mayor of Eddington, New Mexico.

The story, set in May 2020, features a tense standoff between the sheriff and the mayor that rapidly escalates, igniting conflict among the town’s residents as neighbors are pitted against each other.

Alongside Phoenix and Pascal, the film features a strong, extensive ensemble cast, including Luke GrimesDeirdre O’ConnellMicheal WardAustin Butler, and Emma Stone.

Eddington was originally intended as Ari Aster’s directorial debut. Yet, after years of development struggles, he pivoted to direct Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019) instead. This delay, it turns out, was a blessing in disguise. Time has allowed Aster to hone his vision for Eddington, which is now finally nearing its release.

Eddington is set to release theatrically on July 18, 2025. All eyes are on Aster to see how he merges his signature psychological storytelling with the Western genre.
