Netflix has just released some first-look stills from The Thursday Murder Club, the upcoming film adaptation of Richard Osman’s bestselling novel. The film, set to launch on August 28, 2025, will be an exclusive release on Netflix.The story centers around four retirees – Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie) – who, instead of enjoying typical retiree activities, pass the time solving cold cases for fun. But when a death occurs right on their doorstep, what begins as a harmless hobby turns into a full-fledged mystery. As they find themselves wrapped up in a real crime, the stakes are higher than they ever expected.
The film is written for the screen by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. With an ensemble cast that includes Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver, there’s no shortage of talent here.
This film marks the latest project from the partnership between Netflix and Amblin Entertainment. Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), The Thursday Murder Club is shaping up to be a compelling, character-driven and quirky mystery. The film is produced by Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus, with Jo Burn, Richard Osman, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody serving as executive producers.
