INTERVIEW: James Bamford Talks Orwellian Sci-Fi Action Thriller ‘UTOPIA’

Paramount Movies releases stuntman and fight choreographer-turned director and producer, James Bamford‘s (“Arrow”, Hard Home) futuristic, sci-fi action thriller, Utopia on digital tomorrow, December 10, 2024.

Directed by Bamford, from a screenplay written by Ian Neligh (HydeVindicta), based on an original story by Steven Paul (Never Too Young to DieBody Armor), Utopia stars Moe Dunford (“Vikings”, Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Charlotte Vega (Wrong TurnSkyline: Warpath), Jason Flemyng (BruiserBoiling Point), Daniel Bernhardt (The Killer’s GameSkylines), and Alix Villaret (V for VengeanceVampfather).

In Utopia, a soldier infiltrates a high-tech facility in a desperate attempt to rescue his missing wife, who he believes is caught up in a human trafficking ring. But beyond the facility, he uncovers a surreal, futuristic fantasy world where the lines between reality and illusion merge. As he ventures into this seductive yet deadly space, a shocking truth emerges, drawing him deeper into a deadly game where everything is far from reality.

To celebrate Utopia becoming available to buy on digital from December 10, 2024, CinemaChords sat down with Bamford to find out what drew him to the subject matter the film tackles and the distinct qualities that set this futuristic, Orwellian-esque film apart from simlarly-themes films that have gone before it.
