INTERVIEW: Sydney Scotia Talks Balancing Cozy, Festive Hallmark Movies and Chilling Directorial Debuts

‘Tis the season once again to cozy up and enjoy a good old Christmas romance. One such story is Jason Bourque‘s (Scouting for Christmas, A World Record Christmas) Our Holiday Story, which debuted on the Hallmark Channel on November 2.

Directed by Bourque, from a script penned by Joie Botkin, the film sees Dave (Warren Christie) and Nell (Nikki Deloach) recount their love story to their daughter Joanna’s (Sydney Scotia) boyfriend Chris (Gavin Langelo). We witness one special Christmas where fate repeatedly brought the couple together and then pulled them apart. Unbeknownst to Dave and Nell, they were actually work rivals tasked with organizing a Christmas festival for their town. Meanwhile, in the present day, Chris struggles to express his love for the first time to Joanna. As the two couples’ storylines intersect, the film explores lessons about communication, honesty, and the capacity for personal growth.

To commemorate the imminent festive season and recent release of Our Holiday Story, CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman conducted an interview with Sydney Scotia. The discussion examined the enduring appeal of Christmas romance films and the camaraderie encountered on the set of the film. Additionally, the actress discussed the experience of filming this Christmas romantic comedy in comparison to her previous work on the festive horror film It’s A Wonderful Life. Finally, she revealed her excitement at helming her directorial feature debut in the horror genre in the new year and the specific horror tropes that inspired her to make her foray into filmmaking in this genre.
