Cast and Crew Share Intense Experience Filming Warship-Set Shark Shocker ‘THE LAST BREATH’

The shark-themed movie market has a long and illustrious history, reflecting our complex relationship with the ocean’s apex predators. This year has seen a resurgence of innovative new shark-centric releases, including standout titles such as Under Paris, No Way Up, and Something in the Water – films that exemplify the enduring appeal and vitality of this particular cinematic sub-genre.

Joachim Hedén (Breaking Surface) is poised to build on the subgenre’s recent success with his latest release, the edge-of-your-seat creature feature/survival thriller, The Last Breath.

Directed by Hedén, from a script written by Nick Saltrese, and starring Kim Spearman (As I Am), Jack Parr (“Peaky Blinders”), Alexander Arnold (Yesterday), Erin Mullen (“Midsomer Murders”), Arlo Carter (“Doc Martin”), and Julian Sands (A Room with a View), the film chronicles how, after an 80-year absence, a tropical storm uncovers the long-lost USS Charlotte warship. Levi (Sands), an aging expat who runs a tourist diving business in the British Virgin Islands with his recent college dropout partner Noah (Parr), has dedicated his life to finding this elusive shipwreck. When Noah receives a visit from a group of his thrill-seeking friends, they collectively decide to seize the opportunity to make a once-in-a-lifetime dive to explore the newly discovered wreckage before it is handed over to the authorities.

Their dream dive rapidly takes a turn for the worse, evolving into a terrifying ordeal as the divers find themselves trapped in the pitch-black interior of the shipwreck, thirty metres below the surface with their air supply rapidly running out. And, to make matters worse, it’s not long before they realize something else is lurking in the shadows of the shipwreck.

To celebrate The Last Breath‘s July 26, 2024 theatrical and on-demand release through RLJE Films, we interviewed the film’s stars – Hedén, Spearman, and Parr, who revealed the challenges and meticulous planning required to shoot a movie primarily underwater. We’re certain this insider look is the ultimate bait, guaranteed to leave you eager to see the film.
