Netflix Unleashes “Kaos”: A Contemporary Spin on Greek Mythology – First Images Revealed

Netflix has unveiled a selection of first-look stills from the upcoming irreverent dramedy “Kaos,” created by Charlie Covell, the mind behind the dark comedy hit “The End of the F***ing World,”. The series is inspired by Greek mythology, promising to breathe new life into timeless mythological tales.

The eight-episode series will take a fresh, modern look at the intricate power dynamics and complex, volatile relationships within the pantheon of a dysfunctional family (of gods). Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Fly) will be at the helm as the cruel, stylish, all-powerful yet desperately insecure King of the Gods, Zeus, sure to be played with the actor’s trademark delicious charisma. By his side is Queen Hera, portrayed by Janet McTeer (“Ozark”, “Jessica Jones”), who harbors an explosive secret that could threaten her very existence. son Dionysus, played by Nabhaan Rizwaan (“Station Eleven”, “Informer”), has grown bored with his situation and now craves greater power and respect from his family. Meanwhile, the story also follows the parallel narrative of a human couple on Earth – Riddy, a disillusioned wife, and her distracted rock-star husband Orpheus, played by Aurora Perrineau (“Prodigal Son”, Truth or Dare) and Killian Scott (“Secret Invasion”, The Commuter) respectively.

According to the official synopsis, “having long enjoyed his status as King of the gods, Zeus’ reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the god of gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct.

And he’s right to be worried. Zeus’ one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus, is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure.)”

The cast is rounded out with David Thewlis (“Sandman”, Naked, the Harry Potter franchise),  Rakie Ayola (Dredd, “Holby City”), Cliff Curtis (Training Day, Live Free or Die Hard),  Stephen Dillane (“Game of Thrones”, “The Tunnel”), Misia Butler (“Kiss Me First”, “The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself”), Stanley Townsend (“The Spy”, “Blackshore”), and Leila Farzad (The Marvels, “I Hate Suzie”).

The series is executive produced by Jane Featherstone, Chris Fry, Charlie Covell, Katie Carpenter, Georgi Banks-Davies, Nina Lederman, Tanya Seghatchian, and John Woodward.

“Kaos” will debut on Netflix on August 29, 2024 and we’ll leave you with the aforementioned images that tease the prospect of witnessing such renowned mythological figures navigating the chaos and absurdities of the contemporary world.
