“Dark Matter” Author and Showrunner Blake Crouch Reveals the Intricacies of his Nightmarish Multiverse

Things are coming to a head in Apple TV+‘s gripping sci-fi thriller series “Dark Matter” which reaches its finale this June 26, 2024. Having captivated audiences on the streaming platform since May, this mind-bending exploration of alternate realities is based on showrunner Blake Crouch‘s bestselling eponymous novel – which has been hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade.

When physicist and family man Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) is abducted one night while walking home in Chicago, he finds himself in an alternate reality where he encounters the lives he could have lived. As Jason attempts to return to his true family, he embarks on a harrowing journey through a mind-bending labyrinth of alternate realities, facing off against his most terrifying foe – himself. The series also features Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley.

As the season draws to a close, CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman sat down with showrunner, Crouch, who revealed the considerations he made to ensure the series was the most effective adaptation of his source material, the boundaries he set given that the premise lends itself to infinite possibilities, and the new elements he wanted to incorporate into the story 10 years after writing the novel.
