INTERVIEW: Shed Seven’s Rick Witter Teases Incoming Sixth Studio Album ‘A Matter of Time’

Whilst it feels like it was only just yesterday, it’s already been just shy of six years since the release of Shed Seven’s fifth studio album ‘Instant Pleasures,’ (their first since 2001’s Truth Be Told). Swooping into the UK album charts at No.8 to equal the band’s best-ever chart placement, it was clear that the band were back in command and the album’s success left fans with high hopes of more new material in an imminent future.

And that’s exactly what happened with the band having just confirmed a January 12th 2024 release for their forthcoming LP, ‘A Matter of Time’, which they recently recorded in Spain with legendary producer Youth from Killing Joke, who’s previously worked with other esteemed musicians such as U2, James, Embrace and The Charlatans. To coincide with the announcement, the band also unveiled new single “Kissing California” last Friday which was met with a rush or praises.

When they wrapped recording at the end of February the band had the following to say: “Our final day in the studio here in Spain and what a journey this record has been so far. We’re sure you can tell by all the updates just how excited we all are about the new music. We all believe we’re making something very special here. The band is on fire and we’ve truly captured that joyous spirit within these songs … Massive thanks to our producer Martin ‘Youth’ Glover for pushing us to new summits and for helping us find new depths in both our songwriting and musicianship.”

To celebrate the band’s return, CinemaChords sat down with frontman Rick Witter who revealed how the new album tackles themes of love, death, sex, recreation and stalking, how the band approached the album as a coherent whole, and how the promotion ahead of the new album will take quite a different tack; one that’s sure to shake the shine right into your smile.

You can pre-order the album from the official store here.
