James Gunn and Peter Safran Reveal Next in Line to Play Clark and Lois for ‘SUPERMAN: LEGACY’

Shortly after James Gunn took to new social platform Bluesky social to share an update on the casting process for Superman: Legacy, a decision has been made as to who will be stepping into the shoes of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Following a series of full costume and make up auditions in front of DC co-chairmen Peter Safran and Gunn, the roles ultimately went to David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

This will be Corenswet’s first major leading role in a tentpole film, with recent credits including Ti West’s Pearl, and HBO’s “We Own This City.” Brosnahan has recently starred in film’s such as Julia Hart’s I’m Your Woman, and Walter Hill’s Dead For a Dollar and just recently completed the final season of her breakout role on Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel,” which earned her an Emmy and a host of other awards.

The audition process for the movie has been ongoing for the past few months now, and with the two lead protagonists now confirmed, the next role Safran and Gunn are most likely to announce any time soon will be that of the power-mad CEO of LexCorp and Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.

Superman: Legacy will be directed by Gunn from his own script based on the DC characters, with Safran producing and the film is currently slated for a worldwide 11 July 2025 release date.
