Apple TV+ debuts trailer for elevated, New York-set, Dickensian whodunit “CITY ON FIRE”

Apple TV+ has shared the official trailer for the streaming platform’s impending eight-episode mystery thriller “City on Fire”, inspired by Garth Risk Hallberg’s eponymous novel.

Penned and Exec-produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“Gossip Girl”, “The O.C.”), “City on Fire” is a music-driven tale and family saga starring Wyatt Oleff (It, Guardians of the Galaxy), Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies, Daniel Isn’t Real), Jemima Kirke (“Conversations with Friends,” “Sex Education”), Nico Tortorella (Scream 4, “The Walking Dead: World Beyond”), Ashley Zukerman (The Fear Street Trilogy, “Succession”), Xavier Clyde, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi (“The Mandalorian,” “Fear the Walking Dead”), Kathleen Munroe (“Patriot,” The Void), John Cameron Mitchell (“Sandman,” “Joe vs.Carole”), Geoff Pierson (“Dexter,” “Designated Survivor”) and Beth Malone.

“City on Fire” chronicles the shooting of an NYU student in Central Park on the Fourth of July, 2003. Samantha (Sui Wonders) is alone; there are no witnesses and very little physical evidence. Her friends’ band is playing at her favourite downtown club, but she leaves to meet someone, promising to return. She never does. As the investigation into Samantha’s death unfolds, she is revealed to be the crucial link between a series of mysterious citywide fires, the downtown music scene, and a wealthy uptown real estate family fraying under the strain of the many secrets they keep.

Oleff plays Charlie, a friend of Samantha’s who is struggling to cope with the death of his father on 9/11 two years previously. Following Samantha’s murder, he stops at nothing to unravel the mystery of what happened.

The series’ source material was a New York Times Notable Book and named one of the Best Books of the Year by The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Vogue, San Francisco Chronicle, and The Wall Street Journal.

“City on Fire” will make its global premiere on Apple TV+ with the first three episodes on Friday, May 12, followed by one new episode weekly through June 16, 2023.
