Paramount+ Recruits its Captain Kirk for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”

Ahead of this May’s premiere of the first season of Paramount+’s Star Trek spinoff show “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, Paul Wesley (“The Vampire Diaries”, “24”) has been cast to play the iconic role of James Tiberius Kirk in the already greenlit second season of the show.

Starring Anson Mount (Non-Stop, “Hell on Wheels”), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men), Ethan Peck (In Time, The Midnight Sky), Babs Olusanmokun (Dune), Christina Chong (“Line of Duty”), Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush, and Melissa Navia, “Strange New Worlds” is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike (Mount) manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise before Captain Kirk. Mount, Romijn, and Peck all made their first appearance in the “Star Trek” universe during Season 2 of “Star Trek: Discovery.” Romijn stars as first officer Number One, while Peck plays Science Officer Spock.

Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers are serving as showrunners for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” also executive producing alongside Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Aaron Baiers.

The series is produced by CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment.

Speaking of the latest addition to the cast, Kurtzman, Goldsman, and Myers said, “Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence, and a welcome key addition to the show. Like all of us, he is a life-long Star Trek fan and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.”
