TRAILER: Bryan Fuller’s ‘DUST BUNNY’ Brings Monsters, Hitmen, and a Twisted Fairytale Edge to Family Horror

Bryan Fuller is no stranger to beautifully twisted stories — “Hannibal”, “Pushing Daisies”, and “American Gods” all proved he can take strange, dark material and make it striking, emotional, and visually unforgettable. Now, he’s stepping behind the camera for his feature film debut, Dust Bunny, and the first trailer suggests something equally bold: a dark, fantastical horror film told through the eyes of a child, with a hitman, some very real monsters, and just enough heart to call it a “family horror” movie — whatever that may mean.

Dust Bunny follows 10-year-old Aurora (Sophie Sloan), a girl who believes a monster ate her entire family. In her search for help, she turns to her reclusive neighbor (Mads Mikkelsen), who just so happens to kills real-life monsters. He’s a hit man for hire. As the unlikely duo team up, Mikkelsen’s character begins to suspect Aurora’s family may have actually fallen victim to assassins gunning for him — and protecting her quickly becomes a fight for both their lives.

Also starring Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian, the film is produced by Fuller alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee (the John Wick franchise), with Fuller also serving as writer and director.

Dust Bunny will have its world premiere as part of the Midnight Madness section at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, and is set for a theatrical release in the U.S. on December 12 through Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.
