‘Street Fighter’ Trailer Teases Hard-Hitting Capcom Adaptation Loaded With Game Nods Galore

Street Fighter Trailer

Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures have today debuted the official trailer for Street Fighter, the upcoming live-action adaptation directed by Kitao Sakurai (“Beef,” “Twisted Metal”). The film brings one of Capcom’s flagship properties to the big screen, drawing from a franchise that has become one of the highest-grossing in video game history.

First launched in 1987, Street Fighter expanded with multiple sequels, spin-offs and crossover titles, with 1991’s Street Fighter II widely credited with establishing many of the defining conventions of the one-on-one fighting genre.

Set in 1993, the new adaptation follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters (Andrew Koji [Snake Eyes, “Warrior”] and Noah Centineo [Black Adam, Warfare], respectively), who are drawn back into combat when Chun-Li (Callina LiangPresence), recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. The competition unfolds as a high-stakes clash, while an underlying conspiracy forces the characters to confront both one another and unresolved elements of their past.

The ensemble cast also includes Joe Anoai as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki and Eric André as Don Sauvage. Further cast members include Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe. Curtis Jackson appears as Balrog, with Jason Momoa also featuring as Blanka.

The project is produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Takayuki Nakayama and Stefan Makhoul, with executive producers JJ Hook, Jay Ashenfelter, Kenzo Tsujimoto and Haruhiro Tsujimoto. The story is by Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman, with a screenplay by T. J. Fixman and Sakurai.

Street Fighter is scheduled to release exclusively in cinemas on October 16.
