Shudder and RLJE Films Acquire Joe Begos’ Contribution to the Festive Horror Canon, Christmas Bloody Christmas

‘Twas the eve before the Beyond Fest sold-out world premiere of Joe Begos‘ (Bliss, Almost Human) gloriously gory festive slasher, Christmas Bloody Christmas. All was still and calm until Shudder and RLJE Films announced having acquired what is sure to become an annual go-to movie to bring in the festive season.

Written and directed by Begos, and starring Riley Dandy (That’s Amor), Sam Delich (Spiderhead), Jonah Ray Rodrigues (Satanic Hispanics, “Mystery Science Theater 3000”), Dora Madison (Alone with You), Jeremy Gardner (The Battery, After Midnight), with Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Munsters (2022), 3 From Hell) and Abraham Benrubi (Bliss, “ER”, The Belko Experiment), Christmas Bloody Christmas takes place on Christmas Eve, centering on fiery record store owner Tori Tooms who just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal, and violence, ultimately forcing Tori into a blood-splattered battle for survival against the ruthless heavy metal Saint Nick himself.

Commenting on the acquisition, Begos said, “Since I was a young kid I’ve dreamed of making both a crazy holiday horror movie unlike any other and a no holds barred killer robot flick, but never imagined I could make them the same movie. The maniacs at RLJE Films and Shudder have allowed this fantasy to play out and greenlit this neon-soaked robot fever dream, championing the choice to shoot on film and build a real-deal robot in 2022. This truly is the place to be making cool and original filmmaker-driven genre films that, frankly, nobody else has the balls to finance.”

“Christmas is a favorite time of year for horror fans, going all the way back to Bob Clark’s infamous film Black Christmas. This December, we can’t wait to present Joe Begos’ gory and glorious contribution to the holiday horror cannon, Christmas Bloody Christmas, which we know will delight Shudder members and become an annual favorite,” added Shudder General Manager Craig Engler.

The film was produced by Joe Begos and Josh Ethier (Bliss and VFW) through their Channel 83 Films banner. Emily Gotto from Shudder and Ward and Betsy Rodgers from RLJE Films negotiated the deal with Channel 83 Films, Theo Vieljeux at DISSIDENT and Wayne Alexander of Alexander, Lawrence, Frumes & Labowitz, LLP.

Christmas Bloody Christmas makes its World Premiere at Beyond Fest on October 5, 2022 and will release In Theaters and on Shudder on December 9, 2022.
