London-by-way-of-Yorkshire post punk outfit DEADLETTER have dropped the video for their latest single, ‘Relieved’. This driving, saxophone-led anthem, inspired by feelings of unease, offers another impressive indication of the band’s fast-approaching debut album, Hysterical Strength, coming out on 13 September via SO Recordings.
Frontman Zac Lawrence sums up the new song as capturing that all-too-familiar social dilemma of being put on the spot by a stranger, most typically in a smoking area, and not knowing how to escape. He says “‘Relieved’ is about this very British problem of over-minding one’s manners and the inability to remove oneself from an encounter that oozes discomfort.”
Produced by Jim Abbiss, known for his work with an extensive list of established artists including Arctic Monkeys, Stereophonics, Placebo, Editors, Kasabian, The Kooks and Adele, this album’s opening statements provide a fitting launchpad for the record’s exploratory art-punk sound that navigates malevolent atmospheres while searching for clarity amidst the chaos.
