Sony’s latest instalment in one of horror’s most revered sagas, Insidious: Out of the Further, hits cinemas this Friday, August 21, 2026.
Amelia Eve (“The Haunting of Bly Manor”) stars as Gemma, a young mother returning to her childhood stomping ground. Once settled, she discovers a terrifying ability: she can step into ‘The Further’, the sinister, supernatural dimension at the core of the Insidious universe. As she delves deeper into her psychic link, she realises she’s also acting as a conduit, pulling evil entities into the real world.
Franchise icon Lin Shaye (Dead End, The Grudge) returns as the legendary medium Elise Rainier. She’s joined by an electric supporting cast featuring Brandon Perea (Nope, Twisters), Sam Spruell (Legend, Fargo) and Joseph Lopez (Dead Mail, Passenger).
The film is directed by Jacob Chase (Come Play), who co-wrote the screenplay with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick from a story by the pair.
The Insidious franchise has now grossed more than $740 million worldwide from a combined production budget of $42.5 million.
Insidious: Out of the Further is produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, with Steven Schneider, Ryan Turek, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Johnson-McGoldrick on board as executive producers.
To mark the film’s release, we sat down with Amelia Eve, Lin Shaye and Brandon Perea, alongside Chase, to talk about opening up an ingenious new aspect for The Further — and finding fresh territory in a franchise now múltiple movies deep. They discuss Shaye’s Elise, a character who continues to evolve and surprise even the actress who has played her from the beginning; the challenge of bringing new ideas to a familiar mythology; and how Out of the Further embraces the nostalgia of Insidious without ever becoming weighed down by it.
