A24 Debuts Official Trailer for Bold, Pop-Horror Feature ‘OPUS’, Premiering at Sundance

Ahead of its highly anticipated world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, A24 has dropped the official trailer for Opus, the bold and flashy pop-horror feature from writer and director Mark Anthony Green.

This marks Green’s feature film directorial debut, following his acclaimed comedy short Trapeze, U.S.A., which garnered attention and awards at festivals like Hollyshorts. A veteran of the fashion world, Green has also made a name for himself as the Special Projects Director at GQ Magazine, influencing pop culture and fashion as one of the magazine’s leading voices.

In Opus, Ayo Edebiri (After the Hunt, “The Bear”) takes center stage as a young writer invited to a secluded compound belonging to a legendary pop star, played by John Malkovich (Shadow of the Vampire, Con Air). The star mysteriously disappeared thirty years ago, and as the writer navigates the eerie environment, she finds herself surrounded by a devoted cult of followers and intoxicated journalists. The chilling atmosphere quickly unravels as she becomes entangled in the pop star’s twisted and dangerous plans.

The star-studded cast also includes Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers, Cape Fear), Murray Bartlett (Ponyboi, “The White Lotus”), Amber Midthunder (Prey, Novocaine), Stephanie Suganami (“Power Book II: Ghost”), Young Mazino (“Beef”), and Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1). The narrative promises an electrifying critique of celebrity culture, exploring the seductive power dynamics of fame within a symphonic ambience that seamlessly blends tension and allure.

With its eye-popping visuals and sharp commentary on the cult of celebrity, Opus is shaping up to be a standout in the Midnight section at Sundance. Scheduled for its world premiere on January 27, 2025, the film will also be released theatrically on March 14, 2025.

Watch the chilling trailer below and prepare for a mind-bending dive into the dark side of fame and power.
