Benedict Cumberbatch in 1st Trailer for ‘The Fifth Estate’

Following the recent Wikileaks documentary We Steal Secrets the first trailer arrives for Disney’s The Fifth Estate, the silver screen version of Julian Assange’s story.

Adapted for the big screen by Josh Singer (Fringe, Lie To Me) based on the books WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War On Secrecy (David Leigh & Luke Harding) and Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website (Daniel Domscheit-Berg) the film features Benedict Cumberbatch as the silver fox hacker Julian Assange with Daniel Bruhl playing his aforementioned friend and Wikileaks co-founder Domscheit-Berg.

Directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and co-starring Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Dan Stevens, Stanley Tucci, Alicia Vikander, and Laura Linney, The Fifth Estate is released in UK cinemas on the 1st of January, 2014. We’ll leave you with the first trailer below:

Plot Synopsis:

Seen through the eyes of Daniel Domscheit-Berg, an early supporter and eventual colleague of Julian Assange, the film follows the heady, early days of Wikileaks to its abrupt end after a series of controversial and history changing info leaks. The website’s overnight success brought instant fame to its principal architects, but as their power expanded across the globe, Daniel grew increasingly disillusioned with Julian’s questionable tactics and ethics. The rift between the two friends became irreparable and their ideological differences tore them apart, but not before they revolutionized, for better and worse, the flow of information to news media and the world at large.
