INTERVIEW: Deborah Ann Woll and Jeffrey Donovan on Twist-Filled, Stephen King-Endorsed Shocker ‘The Cycle’

When Stephen King singles out a new horror release as something “special,” the genre world stops to listen.

Director Jordan Downey’s latest supernatural shocker, The Cycle (our full review), has earned that exact badge of honor. Fusing the forensic atmosphere of The Autopsy of Jane Doe with the dread-infused puzzle box structure of The Ring, it stands out as the most audacious horror movies of the year.

The premise is deeply unsettling: A corpse is found at a brutal crime scene, thirty-six years after the man first went missing. But as his estranged daughter tries to piece together where he’s been all this time, a straightforward detective story spirals into something far more disturbing.

To mark the film’s streaming debut on Shudder, CinemaChords’s Howard Gorman sat down with stars Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil, True Blood) and Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Fargo) to talk practical effects, narrative turns, and preserving the mystery.
