Dublin outfit Basht. have dropped their new single ‘Kids Vs Guns’, the latest taste of their upcoming debut album Poor Advice, set for release on October 9 via LAB Records.
Following a run of recent singles including ‘Terror TV’, ‘Keira Knightley’, and ‘Perfume’, the new track marks a shift in sound for the band. Moving away from the fast-paced post-punk of their previous material, ‘Kids Vs Guns’ relies on heavy, tumbling guitar riffs and direct vocal delivery.
What started as a poem by frontman Jack Leavey evolved into a direct confrontation with the situation in Palestine—using the track to capture the weight of human suffering.
Speaking about the track’s origins, Leavey said: “This song started off as a poem written in response to the genocide in Palestine, it highlights the one-sided conflict where innocent children are left in the direct firing line. ‘Kids Vs Guns’ is my favourite song off the album and my proudest.”
The track features the line: “Bottle rockets met with missiles, soldiers marching on parade.”
Poor Advice was produced by Ali Chant, known for his work with PJ Harvey, Dry Cleaning, and Perfume Genius.
The single release follows an extensive period of touring for the band, including support slots with Wunderhorse, DEADLETTER, and Everything Everything. Basht. have also performed across the UK and European festival circuit, with appearances at The Great Escape, Truck, Live at Leeds, Liverpool Sound City, Dot To Dot, Supersonic Block Party, and Other Voices.
