Rick McMurray Talks The Transition from ASH to Solo Side Project BURNED AS WITCHES

Burned As Witches Interview

Rick McMurray is about to bring his new solo album “kicking and screaming into the daylight” – his own words – this 17th April via Fierce Panda and Earblind Records.

Best known as the drummer for seminal Northern Irish rock band Ash, his new project, Burned As Witches, has been in development for several years, emerging from a deeply personal moment following the loss of a close friend in 2021.

In addition, McMurray has announced a series of live shows in the lead-up to the album’s release, with tickets available HERE.

Reflecting on the release, McMurray shared: “This feels quite surreal, to have this thing I’ve lived with for so long suddenly out in the wild. I’ll tell you the story behind the whole thing another time. For now I’m just trying to get my head around this being real…”

To mark the album’s release, CinemaChords caught up with McMurray to discuss how the LP was shaped by and dedicated to the late Steve Strange, his transition from working with Ash to operating as a one-man project, and how this work diverges from his day-to-day role.

Pre-orders for vinyl and exclusive merchandise, including t-shirts, are available HERE.
