The Inbetweeners are making a comeback—over a decade after they first brought the awkward chaos of British adolescence to our screens. Will, Simon, Neil, and Jay are set for a new round of hilarious misadventures, with a deal struck by Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions to bring the beloved series back. Fans of the show will be thrilled to know that a film or TV return is in the works, and a wild Las Vegas setting has already been teased. There’s also talk of a stage adaptation, broadening the scope of the show’s cultural footprint.
“The Inbetweeners” first aired on Channel 4’s youth network E4 in 2008, quickly becoming a cultural touchstone. A second season followed in 2010, and the show’s success was cemented with two films in 2011 and 2014, both of which topped the UK box office.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends),” commented Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, the creators and writers of The Inbetweeners, giving fans a taste of the future direction.
Banijay UK CEO Patrick Holland also shared his enthusiasm for the project: “I have worked with Damon and Iain on a number of Fudge Park projects over the years and was delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners with them. They have an infectious, creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audiences old and new, so I can’t wait to get going.”
Rumours of a reunion have been swirling for some time, and in August 2024, actor Joe Thomas, who played Simon, confirmed that a third film has been discussed. Speaking on the Always Be Comedy podcast, Thomas revealed that the entire original cast – James Buckley (Jay), Simon Bird (Will), and Blake Harrison (Neil) — would be open to reuniting.
“We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it,” Thomas said.
He also suggested a stag do, or bachelor party, as the ideal setting for a potential film. “Las Vegas would be an interesting venue for the boys to reunite,” he added, hinting at what could be the perfect backdrop for another unforgettable Inbetweeners adventure.
