‘Playdate’ First Look: Kevin James and Alan Ritchson Turn Toddler Time Into Turf War

Prime Video has released the first official images from Playdate, the upcoming action-comedy that asks a simple question: what if your kid’s playdate turned into a full-blown shootout? Directed by Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door, The Animal) and written by Neil Goldman (“Shrinking”), the film stars Kevin James and Alan Ritchson as two dads whose day in the park goes from juice boxes to mercenaries in the blink of an eye.

Playdate follows recently unemployed accountant Brian (James), who agrees to a casual playdate with charismatic stay-at-home dad Jeff (Ritchson) and their young sons. What starts as an ordinary suburban afternoon quickly spirals into a chaotic scramble for survival when they find themselves pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries. Brian’s complete lack of tactical skills clashes hilariously with Jeff’s surprisingly prepared demeanor, delivering a mix of family comedy and high-stakes action.

The film also stars Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Stephen Root, Isla Fisher, Hiro Kanagawa, Benjamin Pajak, and Banks Pierce. Produced by Luke Greenfield alongside Jason Benoit, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Mark Fasano, and Jeffrey Greenstein, Playdate‘s executive producers include Alan Ritchson, Dan Spilo, Neil Goldman, Michelle Meyers, Alexis Garcia, Matthew Goldberg, Lee Broda, and Jamal Sannon.

Set to blend suburban dad life with explosive thrills, Playdate will premiere globally on Prime Video on November 12, 2025.
