Yungblud Single ‘Zombie’ Digs Deep into Emotional Wreckage with Heartbreaking Florence Pugh-Starring Video

Yungblud dives deep into emotional wreckage with his latest, haunting single, ‘Zombie.’ Dropping earlier today across all major platforms, the track will also be accompanied by a cinematic music video, premiering at 4pm BST here.

The video features Academy Award-nominated actress Florence Pugh in the role of a beleaguered healthcare worker pushed to her emotional limits. Directed by Charlie Sarsfield and produced by Untold Studios, the visual narrative is said to mirror the raw vulnerability of the track, exploring themes of loss, emotional decay, and the fear of becoming a shadow of one’s former self. Last month, Yungblud showed his support for Pugh, recently attending the European premiere of Marvel’s Thunderbolts, in which Pugh stars.

Yungblud shared that ‘Zombie’ was inspired by personal family struggles: “The song was written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before. It’s about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment.”

He added, “We all want someone or something to comfort us no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it’s f*cking scary.”

The track is the third single from his upcoming album, Idols, arriving June 20 via Locomotion/Island Records. Idols will be released in two parts, with the second installment yet to be dated.

Fans were given a first taste of Zombie during a surprise show at London’s Scala back in March, where Yungblud performed the song to a packed, fervent crowd.

Beyond his music, Yungblud continues to make headlines for his grassroots efforts to build inclusive spaces for fans. He recently appeared on BBC’s The Interview with Laura Kuenssberg, where he spoke about Bludfest, his personally curated festival designed to be accessible and community-driven. Bludfest returns for its second year on June 21 at The National Bowl in Milton Keynes – just one day after Idols hits shelves.

Physical editions of the album will offer a range of collectible options for fans, including exclusive vinyl variants and signed merchandise. Each vinyl includes a lyric booklet and one of six double-sided lithographs that, when combined, form a cross-shaped artwork.
