First Look at Private Detective Drama “Sugar” from Apple TV+: A Unique Blend of Mystery and Modernity

Apple TV+ has unveiled an enticing first look at its upcoming drama “Sugar,” starring Oscar nominee Colin Farrell, who executive produces. The eight-episode season will premiere globally on April 5th, 2024 with the release of the first two episodes on Apple TV+, followed by a new episode each Friday.

Farrell stars as the lead character, John Sugar, a private investigator searching for answers after the disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the beloved granddaughter of legendary producer Jonathan Siegel. As Sugar digs deeper into the case, he uncovers dark family secrets new and old.

Joining Farrell is an all-star cast including Kirby (“Sandman”), Amy Ryan (“The Wire”), James Cromwell (“Succession”), Anna Gunn (“Breaking Bad), Dennis Boutsikaris (“Better Call Saul”), Nate Corddry (“Mindhunter”), Sydney Chandler (“Don’t Worry Darling”), and Alex Hernandez (“Invasion”). The series hails from creator Mark Protosevich (The Cell, I Am Legend), who also executive produces and Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg of Genre Films also serve as executive producers, this being their second series with Apple TV+ under Kinberg’s overall deal, following “Invasion.” Sam Catlin, Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich also serve as executive producers. The series was directed by Fernando Meirelles (“City of God,” “Two Popes”), who also executive produces, and Adam Arkin (“The Offer”), who also co-executive produces.

With its star-studded cast, and a contemporary, unique take on one of the most popular and significant genres in literary, motion picture, and television history: the private detective story, “Sugar” promises to be a can’t-miss drama which viewers can look forward to when the two-episode premiere drops this April 5th, 2024, only on Apple TV+.
