First Trailer for ‘BIRDEATER’ Takes Viewers on a Daring Descent into Relationship Chaos and Toxic Masculinity

Blue Finch Film Releasing has today unleashed the chilling trailer for Birdeater, a striking and powerful feature debut from longtime filmmaking collaborators Jack Clark and Jim Weir who took home the Audience Award for Best Australian Feature at this year’s Sydney Film Festival. Set to make its buzzworthy international premiere at SXSW this weekend, Birdeater promises to be a daring descent into relationship chaos and toxic masculinity gone feral.

Directed by Clark and Weir, from a script Weir penned, the film sees a bride-to-be receive an invite to join her own fiancé’s bachelor party on a remote property in the Australian outback. But as the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos unsettling truths about their relationship come crawling to the surface and the celebration devolves into a feral nightmare.

Birdeater stars Shabana Azeez, Mackenzie Fearnley, Ben Hunter, Jack Bannister, Clementine Anderson, Alfie Gledhill, Harley Wilson, Caroline McQuade. The film is produced by Stephanie Troost and Ulysses Oliver and exec. produced by Ben Ferris, Chris Thompson, Jack Stephens, Jack Clark and Jim Weir.

The filmmakers describe it as “an unapologetic look at how Australia’s iconic masculine identity has become incompatible with contemporary gender politics,” whilst producer, Stephanie Troost raves, “Birdeater unfolds a compelling narrative that intricately explores the nuances of toxic masculinity, uncovering its insidious presence within social circles. Beyond mere revelation, the film poses probing questions to those who turn a blind eye to its existence.”

Birdeater will premiere at SXSW this Saturday, March 9 at 9:45pm at Alamo Drafthouse South Lama. Head over to the SXSW festival page here for all details.
