The British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) today revealed the longlists for Best Feature Documentary sponsored by Intermission Film and Best International Independent Film sponsored by Taittinger Champagne.
Fifteen films are in the running for the Best Feature Documentary, all of which explore diverse themes and stories from around the world – some having been in development for several years. Eight of this year’s shortlisted documentaries are helmed by women.
2022 has seen the introduction of a new category, Best Debut Director – Documentary. This longlist will be announced on Monday 24 October, along with BIFA’s other prestigious new talent categories.
Meanwhile, seventeen films are in the running for Best International Independent Film Award, all having already scooped numerous awards at this year’s flagship international film festivals. Three of this year’s international titles come from the United States, two from South Korea, one from China, one from Iran, one from South America, and the remaining nine from Europe.
The final five nominations in each category will be announced at the beginning of November with the winners revealed at the 25th annual BIFA ceremony on Sunday 4 December.
