‘The Adam Project’ Lands Third Best Netflix Movie Debut Week Viewing Figures

Time is of the essence in the Ryan Reynolds-starring The Adam Project and, according to Netflix‘s recently updated weekly viewing metrics system, the aforementioned film amassed a grand total of 92.4 million viewing hours in the week ending 13 March (taking account of all hours watched, regardless of whether the streaming service’s subscribers watched the film once or various times).

Shawn Levy’s (Free Guy, “Stranger Things”) Ryan Reynolds-starring family-friendly blockbuster for the ages follows the trials and tribulations of thirteen-year-old Adam Reed, who we find still grieving the sudden death of his father a year earlier. On walking into his garage one night, he stumbles across a wounded pilot (Reynolds) hiding there. Despite “not knowing him from Adam,” he is in fact an older version of himself from the future, where time travel is in its infancy.

Future Adam has risked everything to come back in time on a secret mission, requiring them to adventure into the past to find their father, set things right, and save the world. The three working together, both young and grown Adam come to terms with the loss of their father and have a chance to heal the wounds that have shaped them. Adding to the challenge of the mission, the two Adams discover they don’t get along particularly well despite being one and the same person, and if they’re going to save the world, they’re first going to have to figure out how to resolve their differences.

In August last year, 20th Century Studios’ long-delayed Free Guy, which also brought Levy and Reynolds together, went on to score a huge big-screen hit just as the box office was starting to bounce back following the pandemic, raking in $121.6 million domestically and $331.5 million worldwide. And it would appear that the Levy/Reynolds bromance will continue to rage on as the two are both confirmed to be attached for the third installment in the Deadpool saga.

The Adam Project’s first weekend ranks it in third place behind front-runner Red Notice (also starring Reynolds), which clocked up 148.7 million viewing hours in the week ending November 14, 2021, and current second-place movie Don’t Look Up, from Adam McKay, with 111 million viewing hours for the week ending December 26). The Adam Project is available now on Netflix and you can read our review of the film here.
