After his debut Crazy Heart met great success, director Scott Cooper is is all set to follow it up with Out of the Furnace, now set for a limited November 27th release, with a wider release on December 6th. Whilst still quite the wait a number of first look images have now been revealed online.
The film stars Christian Bale as Russell Baze, who the actor describes not as “a slick action character….but he finds himself having to confront these people in order to do the right thing. He’s only got his own fortitude and will power, nothing else.” The film was shot in Braddock, Pennsylvania and, according to Cooper, to make sure he got the local accent down to a tee Bale recorded a local man and listened to the recordings “endlessly, even between takes.” Cooper went on to describe the film as “a testament to the steel workers who have suffered through trying economic times. It shows the plight of the citizens of Braddock. They have banded together and emerged stronger now. It’s much like the process of what steel undergoes — intense heat which emerges stronger as it comes out of the furnace.”
Following the release of the images we expect to be able to share the film’s first trailer with you soon which we hope will be backed up with some of the film’s original music composed by Eddie Vedder – Cooper revealed that the Pearl Jam track Release was an inspiration for him whilst writing the film. The film also stars Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Zoë Saldana, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe and Sam Shepard.
We’ll leave you with the exclusive first images and a poster for the film:
