Prime Video has released the official full trailer for “Young Sherlock,” the new series from director Guy Ritchie that explores the formative years of Arthur Conan Doyle‘s legendary detective. The eight-episode series premieres globally on March 4, 2026, across more than 240 countries and territories.
The series charts Sherlock Holmes in his early years, marked by early misjudgments and professional setbacks. His first murder investigation threatens his freedom and quickly exposes a network of events extending beyond Oxford. The story traces the development of his reasoning and observational skills as he confronts challenges that shape the detective he will become. Set mainly in 1870s Oxford, the narrative also moves internationally, showing the experiences that precede the Holmes known at 221B Baker Street.
The concept of a young Holmes on screen is not without precedent. In 1985, Young Sherlock Holmes, directed by Barry Levinson and scripted by Chris Columbus, imagined Holmes and Watson as adolescents meeting for the first time and solving a boarding-school mystery. The film combined Conan Doyle’s characters with the adventurous cinematic sensibilities of the mid-1980s, blending playful spectacle with early glimpses of the deductive skills that would define Holmes in later life. Among viewers who grew up in the mid-1980s, the film continues to hold appeal as a playful, adventurous take on Holmes’ youth.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) stars as Holmes, with Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth rounding out the principal cast.
Based on Andrew Lane’s spin-off novels, “Young Sherlock” has Guy Ritchie directing the first two episodes, returning to the franchise more than a decade after his feature films Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). Matthew Parkhill serves as showrunner, with executive producers Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, and Colin Wilson. Co-executive producers include Harriet Creelman and Steve Thompson, while physical production was led by Motive Pictures.
