‘TIME TRAVEL IS DANGEROUS’: Trailer Reveals Mad Mix of Real-Life Documentary and Wacky Gilliam-esque Sci-Fi

Time Travel Is Dangerous, a British sci-fi comedy directed by Chris Reading, is set to hit UK cinemas on March 28th.

The film, written and co-produced by Anna-Elizabeth & Hillary Shakespeare (AKA the Shakespeare Sisters), follows the story of two best friends, Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson, who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they discover a time machine, the pair begins to “borrow” items from the past, leading to a series of events tied to time-travel and quirky consequences.

The film features a notable ensemble cast, including Johnny Vegas (“Benidorm,” “Bleak House”Romantic Getaway”), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Gosford Park), and Mark Heap (“Spaced,” “Green Wing”). Additional cast members include Stephen Fry (Treasure, “Heartstopper”), who narrates the film, along with Brian Blessed (Flash Gordon, Much Ado About Nothing), Tony Way (“After Life,” Edge of Tomorrow), Guy Henry (“Holby City”), Tom Lenk (“Room 104,” “American Horror Stories”), Laura Aikman (A Family Affair, “The Job Lot”), and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (“Taskmaster,” “Ghosts”).

Time Travel Is Dangerous premiered at several international film festivals, including the Austin Film Festival, FrightFest Halloween, and Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, where it received positive attention for its blend of sci-fi and humor.

Reading shared his thoughts on the release: “I can’t wait for people to experience Time Travel Is Dangerous on the big screen. I set out to make a lighthearted mock-doc about my two friends and their love of vintage, and in the process, we’ve created something that feels real, heartwarming, and hopefully as much fun to watch as it was to make.”

In 2019 working with Twentieth Century Fox, Reading wrote and directed A L I E N: CONTAINMENT an official short film in the ALIEN universe, released to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the 1979 classic.

The Shakespeare Sisters added, “The film is such a mad mix of documentary reality about real-life shop owners and best friends Ruth and Megan spiraling into a totally wacky Gilliam-esque world. We’re so excited to bring it to the UK on the big screen because it’s a very silly, light-hearted comedy and we think it’s one to watch in a room full of laughter with friends!”

Time Travel Is Dangerous will be available in UK cinemas from March 28th, with the newly released trailer offering a first look at the film’s premise and tone.
