Netflix has today confirmed that the much-awaited second season of “Squid Game” will premiere on their platform on December 26, 2024. Not only that, but we will also be getting the third and final season much sooner than expected which is slated for release in 2025.
This news came in a letter from Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series’ executive producer, writer, and director. Hwang Dong-Hyuk made history as the first Asian to win the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmys, and he will reprise his roles as director, writer, and producer for the upcoming seasons.
The cast of “Squid Game” Season 2 reunites key players from the first season, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and Gong Yoo. The new season picks up three years after the deadly competition that captivated audiences in Season 1. Player 456, Gi-hun, remains determined to expose those responsible for the game and put an end to their twisted sport.
Flush with his newfound wealth, Gi-hun allocates his resources to tracking down the elusive, sharply-dressed individual who played a game of ddakji with him in the subway. However, as the truth starts coming to light, Gi-hun quickly realises that taking down the Squid Game syndicate will be far more dangerous than he had anticipated. In fact, Gi-hun may have no choice but to take part in the competition once again if he is to bring the entire operation to a permanent end.
The returning original cast members will be supported with an impeccable list of new cast members making up the ensemble of colorful characters in the new season including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
