Get ready for a wild ride into a dystopian 1990s with Netflix’s latest trailer for The Electric State, a high-stakes sci-fi adventure directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the masterminds behind The Avengers. Based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, and adapted by Avengers writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, this film offers a bold take on an alternate 1990s where a robot uprising has turned the world upside down.
The story follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown, “Stranger Things,” Enola Holmes), an orphaned teenager navigating life in a fractured society. Her world is upended when she discovers Cosmo, a mysterious robot controlled by her younger brother, Christopher — who she thought was dead. Driven by the desire to reunite with him, Michelle embarks on a perilous journey across the American Southwest, uncovering a far-reaching conspiracy. Along the way, she forms an uneasy alliance with Keats (Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), a low-rent smuggler, as they venture into the Exclusion Zone — a desolate, robot-occupied desert region. Keats is accompanied by his robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie), and together, they encounter strange animatronic allies and unravel more danger than they anticipated.

Joining Brown and Pratt are a stellar cast, including Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, and Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci. The film also features voices from Hollywood heavyweights like Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk, who voice various robots in the story. The Electric State is produced by Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall, with executive producers Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, Tim Connors, Nick van Dyk, Jake Aust, Geoffrey Haley, Jeffrey Ford, Simon Stålenhag, Julia Angelin, Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, and Anthony and Barbara Muschietti. Co-producers Anthony J. Vorhies, Joseph Micucci, and Murtaza Kathawala round out the production team.
For a fresh take on a post-apocalyptic world where technology has both helped and betrayed humanity, The Electric State offers a compelling and unique vision. The film premieres on Netflix on March 14, 2025 — watch the new trailer now!
