Netflix Trailer for Sci-Fi Spectacular ‘THE ELECTRIC STATE’ Takes Viewers to an Alternate, Technologically Ravaged 1990s

Netflix has today unveiled the offiical trailer for the dystopian, high-stakes sci-fi adventure, The Electric State, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the visionary filmmakers behind The Avengers franchise. This upcoming film, based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, and adapted for the big screen by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (both writers for The Avengers franchise), presents a striking vision of an alternate 1990s, following the aftermath of a robot uprising that has left sentient robots exiled and humanity struggling to adapt to a changed world. With a talented cast, a compelling storyline, and stunning visuals, The Electric State promises to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

The narrative follows Michelle, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”, Enola Holmes), an orphaned teenager navigating life after the upheaval caused by the failed robot rebellion. Living in a fractured society where robots once served humanity but now live in isolation, Michelle’s world is turned upside down when she encounters Cosmo, a mysterious robot controlled by her younger brother, Christopher — who she thought was dead. Driven by the desire to reunite with the brother she believed lost, Michelle embarks on a perilous journey across the American southwest to uncover the truth about his disappearance.

On her journey, Michelle forms an uneasy alliance with Keats, a low-rent smuggler played by Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), who becomes an unlikely companion as they venture into the Exclusion Zone — a walled-off desert region where robots are forced to live apart from humans. Keats is accompanied by his robot sidekick, Herman, voiced by Anthony Mackie, and as they travel deeper into this enigmatic territory, they encounter a host of strange and colorful animatronic allies, uncovering a conspiracy far more dangerous than they anticipated.

Brown and Pratt are joined by a diverse group of talented actors, including Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, and Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci. Additionally, The Electric State features voices from some of Hollywood’s top talents, including Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk, who lend their voices to the various robots in the story.

The film is produced by Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi and Patrick Newall. The executive producers include Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, Tim Connors, Nick van Dyk, Jake Aust, Geoffrey Haley, Jeffrey Ford, Simon Stålenhag, Julia Angelin, Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, and Anthony and Barbara Muschietti. Co-producers Anthony J. Vorhies, Joseph Micucci, and Murtaza Kathawala further strengthen the film’s production team, adding their own wealth of experience to this ambitious project.

For those eager to experience a fresh take on a post-apocalyptic world where technology has both aided and betrayed humanity, The Electric State looks set to offer a unique and compelling vision. We’ll leave you to the official trailer for The Electric State which premieres on Netflix on 14 March, 2025.
