As anticipation builds for Lust for Life, Or: ‘How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’, Liverpool’s Courting have released their final single, “Namcy,” ahead of the album’s March 14th release via Lower Third. Following the success of “Pause At You” and “After You,” “Namcy” provides a glimpse into the album’s complex narrative, blending infectious energy with lyrical depth.
“Namcy” opens with bouncy guitars and a driving disco beat, capturing the rush of new love and infatuation. However, beneath its upbeat surface, the track hints at the darker themes running through Lust for Life—the disillusionment that often follows the initial spark.
Lyrically, frontman Sean Murphy-O’Neill paints a picture of a naive, blossoming relationship. References to Bowie’s “Absolute Beginners” and the escapism of a “French Exit” reflect the album’s exploration of the tension between romantic ideals and harsh reality.
“Namcy is designed to be very hopeful, a stark contrast to the edges of the album,” Murphy-O’Neill explains. “It is straight set – a linear storyline with made up words. Sometimes, I think it’s important to put aside the need to be clever, and get lost in something a bit more nostalgic, slightly unrealistic, very pretty.”
True to Courting’s style, “Namcy” strikes a balance between catchy hooks and intricate details, chaotic yet calculated, immediate yet rich. It acts as a perfect bridge to the album’s broader themes of love, longing, and the unraveling of idealized relationships.
This release follows a busy year for Courting, which saw them release their second album New Last Name, headline the main stage at Reading and Leeds, and embark on their first U.S. tour—all while secretly working on Lust for Life.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see the band live. Courting’s 2025 tour kicks off with a headline show at Leeds’ Dark Arts Festival on March 15th, followed by a UK headline tour starting in Newcastle on March 31st and concluding in London on April 9th.
