Men In Black to Suit Up Again, Bad Boys Writer Drafted for Next Mission

Sony Pictures is revisiting the black suits and sunglasses of Men In Black nearly three decades after the first film hit theaters. The studio has begun developing another chapter in the sci-fi comedy series, with Chris Bremner, the writer behind Bad Boys For Life, confirmed to be scripting the next entry, according to Deadline. At this stage, no cast or director has been officially announced.

Plot details remain under wraps, though insiders suggest that once Bremner delivers the screenplay, the intention is for Will Smith — the original Agent J — to read it and consider returning. How he might appear is unclear: the role could be central, or it might follow the passing-of-the-torch approach seen in films like Creed. Sources emphasise that Smith is not yet committed and will only make a decision once he has seen the script.

For Sony, the franchise remains a prized asset. Since the first film in 1997, Men In Black has amassed nearly $1.9 billion worldwide across its original trilogy and the 2019 spin-off MIB: International. The series’ blend of sharp comedy and alien spectacle clearly continues to hold value for the studio, much as the Bad Boys revival demonstrated.

The project is still in the earliest stages, with no producers attached so far. Historically, all Men In Black films were produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, with Steven Spielberg in an executive producer role. Whether this new entry will involve the same team or take a fresh approach remains to be seen.
