Leeds indie quintet, Eades have just released their newest single ‘Loose Cliffs Edge’ – the latest offering from their upcoming “Fight or Flight” EP, set to drop on August 30th through their own Bam Bam Records banner.
The latest release from the band slowly swells in intensity from a minimalist guitar and vocal foundation, before reaching a euphoric, full-band finale. The track’s exploratory guitar tunings and pioneering production process give it an edgy, unique quality that sets the band in a class of its own.
This is also the most emotive track on the EP, intimately sharing frontman Harry Jordan’s personal battles with anxiety and how, with his partner’s unwavering support, he was able to rise above adversity and regain control of his mental health. The ‘Loose Cliff’s Edge’ serves as a powerful metaphor for the ongoing struggles he faced on a daily basis, while the ‘girl with grey in her eyes’ pays tribute to his partner, who, without even realising it, helped change his life for the better.
Providing further context on the themes presented in the song, Jordan says:
“The song came from a time spent on holiday in Australia with my now wife. I went for a walk on my own and ended up sitting on the seafront watching the surfers and listening to music. Sophie was sitting on the beach, and watching her going about her business filled me with a huge sense of contentment. I was thinking about how much my life had changed for the better with her in it and how slowly a lot of my anxieties had started to fade away. After that, I started to enjoy life at a slower pace and quickly my priorities changed for the better.
‘The girl with grey in her eyes’ refers to my wife Sophie – when we got together we always used to talk about the colour of her eyes and how they were forever changing colour. I called them pigeon, like the different colours on their feathers, but she just called them grey which I thought was interesting.”
Transatlantic influences pervade the five-piece’s classic indie sound, glued together by the songwriting and vocal swapping partnership of Harry Jordan and Tom O’Reilly and the band’s tight self-produced sound, and story-telling approach has crystalised into a winning calling-card. This ‘build it and they will come’ approach has already seen enviable successes. Photoshoots with iconic photographer Rankin for HUNGER, shout outs from The Guardian, live sessions at Abbey Road Studios, and stand-out sets at Left Of The Dial and The Great Escape, amongst other tastemaker festivals, mark the band out as serious contenders.
The band’s classic indie sound is imbued with transatlantic flavours, seamlessly interwoven by the songwriting and vocal interplay of Harry Jordan and Tom O’Reilly.
