Mila Kunis (Wake Up Dead Man, Black Swan) will star in the upcoming film adaptation of Tracy Sierra’s claustrophobic debut novel Nightwatching, with Corey Hawkins (The Man in My Basement, The Last Voyage of the Demeter) now cast as the police officer in charge of the home invasion case at the story’s centre.
The film is directed by Adam Schindler (Intruders, Dont’ Move) and Brian Netto (Don’t Move), with a screenplay originally written by Laura Moss and Brendan J. O’Brien, now revised by TJ Cimfel and David White.
Nightwatching follows Lee, a mother who, during a relentless winter storm, wakes to the possibility of an intruder in her home. What begins as an ordinary night quickly escalates into a tense struggle for survival. As she does everything in her power to protect her children, Lee is confronted not only with external threats but with a growing uncertainty about her own perception of events. Puzzling and unsettling occurrences force her to question her grasp on reality, adding a terrifying psychological edge to the high-stakes scenario and leaving both character and audience to navigate a fraught and unpredictable situation.
The film is produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, and Sam Roston for Scott Free Productions; Erik Feig, Jessica Switch, and Emily Wissink for Picturestart; and Kunis alongside Lisa Sterbakov for her production company Brick for Sheep. Roston and Avital Siegel oversee production for Scott Free, while Graham Taylor and Christopher Slager serve as executive producers for Fifth Season, which is also financing the project. Justin Alvarado Brown is an executive producer for Scott Free.
International distribution will be handled by Amazon MGM Studios, with domestic rights represented by CAA Media Finance and WME Independent.
Sierra’s debut novel, crowned the spring 2024 champion of the Jimmy Fallon Book Club, explores the tension between parental responsibility and self-doubt. She now has a second thriller, Warning Signs, coming out on 10th February, which follows a father and son whose ski weekend turns into a desperate fight for survival (which you can purchase via the buttons below).
