Netflix has today revealed a selection of first-look images of Seth Gordon’s (Horrible Bosses, Baywatch) Back in Action starring Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary, Knight and Day) – in her first film appearance in a decade – alongside her Any Given Sunday and Annie co-star Jamie Foxx (They Cloned Tyrone, Day Shift).
Directed by Gordon and penned in collaboration with Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), the film follows Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx as Emily and Matt, respectively. On the surface, they’re your typical suburban parents, dedicating their afternoons to coaching Little League. However, beneath this ordinary façade lies an extraordinary past: They were once highly skilled masters of espionage who decided to trade in their explosive life of intrigue at the CIA for diapers, school runs, and domestic bliss.
Yet, as the movie’s title suggests, their tranquil suburban life is short-lived as their once-concealed identities are exposed, thrusting them back into the dangerous, high-stakes world they thought they had left behind.
The films also stars Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Bloodline), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, Hillbilly Elegy), Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers, Fleabag), Jamie Demetriou (Barbie, Fleabag), McKenna Roberts (Skyscraper), and Rylan Jackson (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves).
Commenting on the two protagonists reunion for the film, Foxx says, “A lot of people don’t know this, but after Cameron and I did Any Given Sunday and Annie together, we became friends in real life – and I’ve been begging her to come play with me again. We all know there’s just something about her…”
“I couldn’t have asked for a better partner, on-screen and off,” added Cameron.
Back in Action is produced by Jenno Topping, Peter Chernin and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett for Chernin Entertainment, Beau Bauman for Good One Productions, and Seth Gordon for Exhibit A. Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner, Brendan O’Brien, and Tim Lewis are serving as Executive producers.
Back in Action will release on Netflix on November 15, 2024 which is still a fair way off and we think the images below will leave you even more impatient, but we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait.
