From Turbulent Takeover to Tunnel Trouble: Idris Elba Heads Underground in ‘Hijack’ Season 2 Trailer

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first full trailer for the second season of Hijack, marking the next step in the streamer’s high-pressure thriller anchored by Idris Elba. The newly released footage sets the stage for Sam Nelson’s return as Apple gears up for the global Season 2 launch on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, with the premiere rolling out as a single episode before shifting to a weekly schedule through to 4 March.

Elba once again steps into the role of Nelson, the crisis negotiator whose talent for defusing volatile situations is matched only by his knack for getting pulled into them. This time, the series moves from the skies to the subterranean sprawl of Berlin, with creators George Kay (“Lupin”, “Criminal”) and Jim Field Smith (Litvinenko, “Criminal”) steering the next chapter into new terrain.

Alongside Elba, returning cast members Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Archie Panjabi are all back, joined by an expanded ensemble including Christian Näthe (Ballon), Clare-Hope Ashitey (“Top Boy”), Lisa Vicari (“Dark”), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Karima McAdams (Dune: Prophecy) and Christiane Paul (Counterpart). Field Smith once again helms, with 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions producing.

Since its debut, “Hijack” has grown into one of Apple TV+’s standout original dramas, praised for its real-time tension and Elba’s commanding performance. The first season earned a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and broke into the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10, further cementing the show’s status as a fan favourite.

With the trailer now live, Apple TV+ begins the countdown to Sam Nelson’s next descent into danger. The complete first season of “Hijack” is available to stream now ahead of the new season’s arrival in January.
