It’s Back to Police Academy as Producers Sign Up for Reboot

Today should be renamed ‘80s reboots day what with news of Gremlins and The Goonies sequels/revamps. Well another classic film franchise just joined the queue: Police Academy which, whilst starting life as one of the better spoof movies since the likes of Airplane rapidly turned sour somewhere around the part three mark.

A Police Academy revamp has in fact been on ice, first reported in 2010 with Scott Zabielski (“Tosh.0”) on board to direct for New Line. Unfortunately, Zabielski opted out in the end and news of the project fizzled into nothingness. It is now reported that Comedy Central regulars, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, currently scripting a comedy film with Judd Apatow for Universal, have jumped on board as producers for the gestating Police Academy project.

Obviously their brand of humour fits the cop spoof down to the ground but they would need to really up their game if they wish to inject something fresh into the series that more than outstayed its welcome by the seventh installment. If we could see any familiar faces in the revamp then we would jump at a chance to see sound FX legend, Michael Winslow again. He’s more than stood the test of time on the international comedy circuit and if you ever get a chance to see him live when he is in your neck of the woods we highly recommend you do so.

Until further news arises we’ll leave you with the Key and Peele comedy duo getting into some police capers LA Vice style:
