Inherent Vice to be scored by Jonny Greenwood

Inherent Vice (Paul Thomas Anderson‘s latest project) will benefit from the talent of frequent collaborator Jonny Greenwood.

Paul Thomas Anderson has long been one of the most talented and most interesting figures working today. Just listing some of his works means we can name Boogie Nights, Magnolia and There Will Be Blood. He’s the man who directed Daniel Day-Lewis into making us feel threatened by the drinking of milkshake, and he’s the one who made us all realise that Adam Sandler can act.

And so it’s fair to say that we are all excited to see what Anderson can achieve with his next film – an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon‘s novel. The film will follow a detective through 1970’s LA, as he investigates the death of his former girlfriend. The detective is to be played by Joaquin Phoenix, another returning figure to Anderson’s work after having collaborated together in The Master.

It’s very good news that Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead‘s guitarist) will be returning to work with Paul Thomas Anderson once again. Having previously scored both The Master and There Will Be Blood he has more than proved his credentials for working on an Anderson film. Both of his previous contributions have been amongst the best scores of the last twenty years, particularly his for There Will Be Blood. It perfectly captured the essence of the film and then went on to deepen each individual scene’s power. It noticeably contributed to the lingering power the film held after the credits rolled.

Inherent Vice will also star Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson and Reese Witherspoon in supporting roles. It is due out later this year.
