In a bold cinematic reimagining of Stephen King‘s 1982 novel, The Running Man is set to return to the big screen, this time under the direction of Edgar Wright, the visionary behind Shaun of the Dead and Last Night in Soho. Today, Paramount Pictures has dropped a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated film, offering a broader glimpse at Wright’s take on the dystopian action thriller.
Set in a hyper-violent near-future America, The Running Man imagines a reality where a state-sanctioned bloodsport is the nation’s highest-rated television show. Contestants – known as “Runners” – are forced to fight for their lives, with every moment broadcast to millions of spectators who revel in the carnage. At the heart of this brutal spectacle is Ben Richards, played by Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), a working-class man driven by desperation to save his daughter, who becomes an unlikely hero as the stakes escalate.

Wright, who co-wrote the script with his long-time collaborator Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), has promised a version of The Running Man that’s truer to King’s original vision than the cult-favourite Schwarzenegger-led adaptation from 1987. The trailer offers a glimpse of Wright’s signature kinetic direction and biting satirical tone, setting the stage for an explosive cinematic experience. Also, if you look closely in the new trailer for The Running Man, you might spot a cameo that Edgar Wright teased this past weekend… and trust me, it’s on the money.
Alongside Powell, the film features a stellar ensemble cast, including Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, and Colman Domingo.
Produced by Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Edgar Wright, with executive producers George Linder, James Biddle, Rachael Prior, Audrey Chon, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary, The Running Man is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated films of 2025.
Catch The Running Man in cinemas on November 14, 2025. The clock is ticking—will you survive the game?
