A24 Confirm Third Entry in Ti West’s ‘X’ Horror Franchise: ‘MaXXXine’

Following the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Ti West’s Pearl (a secretly-filmed prequel that the filmmaker made in conjunction with X), the audience members found themselves the surprising recipients of the exclusive news that A24 had greenlit a film going by the name of MaXXXine, which will be the third film in the X horror franchise.

Written and directed by West, MaXXXine will follow Mia Goth, reprising her role as Maxine, the sole survivor in X, as she continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980’s Los Angeles.

MaXXXine is produced by A24, Jacob Jaffke and Ti West and executive produced by Goth. Additional producers include Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss.

Aside from the exclusive reveal, the audience was also treated to a teaser trailer for the third entry which you can watch below.

Pearl, which recently world-premiered at the Venice Film Festival to universal acclaim, centers around the titular character who, trapped on her family’s isolated farm, must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all collide, in the stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.

A24 releases the film nationwide in theaters this Friday, September 16.
