First Look Stills Emerge From Upcoming “Fallout” Series Adapted from Eponymous RPG Video Game Franchise

Vanity Fair has published a selection of exclusive first-look stills from Prime Video’s forthcoming post-apocalyptic drama television series “Fallout” developed by “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan based on the role-playing video game franchise of the same name created by Interplay Entertainment and now owned by Bethesda Softworks.

According to Vanity Fair, the series opens as nuclear war breaks out on Earth in the year 2077 – an era of robots, hover cars and a deep and abiding nostalgia for 1940s America. After the incendiary mushroom clouds, the story jumps forward 219 years. How has humanity fared in the intervening two centuries? Lucy, one of the central characters (played by “Yellowjackets” star Ella Purnell), has no clue. She has lived her entire life in an underground vault, where every need and desire is catered for, while generations and generations await the day when it is safe to venture to the surface. When a crisis forces Lucy to venture above on a rescue mission, she finds that the planet above remains a hellscape, teeming with giant insects, insatiable mutant animal “abominations” and a human population of sunbaked miscreants.

The ensemble cast is rounded out with Moises Arias, Johnny Pemberton,Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, and Kyle MacLachlan.

Amazon bought the rights to produce this live-action project in 2020, and the series was announced in July of that year, alongside confirmation of Kilter Films’ involvement. Shortly after, Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan were named as head writers, and Bethesda Game Studios producer Todd Howard, who has directed various games in the series, signed on to executive produce alongside Joy and Nolan.

“Fallout” is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on April 12, 2024.
