Urban Legend Bleeds into Reality in Kevin Lewis’ ‘Pig Hill,’ World Premiering at FrightFest

Nothing up here after dark except trouble…

Empty Jug Productions, in association with Concourse Media, has announced that their latest horror feature Pig Hill will celebrate its World Premiere at this year’s FrightFest on August 23rd. To mark the occasion, a new trailer has debuted, offering a first look at the film’s eerie atmosphere and creeping dread.

Directed by Kevin Lewis — best known for the cult hit Willy’s WonderlandPig Hill is based on the 2019 novel “Pig: A Supernatural Thriller” by Nancy Williams, and stars Rainey Qualley (Shut In), Shane West (Salem), and Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead). The film was shot on location in Meadville, Pennsylvania, the real-life origin of the urban legend that inspired the story.

The plot centres on Carrie (Qualley), a woman investigating a string of unexplained disappearances in her hometown. As she digs deeper, she uncovers disturbing local legends about the so-called “pig people” — tales that begin to blur the line between myth and reality. With the help of Andy (West) and her brother Chris (Fernandez), Carrie finds herself pulled into a decades-old mystery that soon becomes a fight for survival.

The film’s source material has been praised as “a poignant exploration of how the mind builds walls and channels to survive trauma” and “a masterclass in plot twists and narrative depth.” With that calibre of pedigree, Pig Hill is a must-see at this year’s FrightFest.

In a statement, Lewis described Pig Hill as “a punk-rock fever mind trip” and added:

I am so excited to premiere my film “Pig Hill” at FrightFest in August. The festival is  of the best genre film festivals in the world and it is such an honor to have this movie being shown to the most dedicated horror audiences that a filmmaker could possibly have. It is adapted from Nancy William’s novel and is a poignant story of obsession, love, and the terrible consequences of what happens when reality and fantasy blur. It is a tale of the remarkable power of the mind and how it will do anything to protect itself.”

Concourse Media holds worldwide rights and will present the film to domestic distributors around the FrightFest premiere.
