Universal Pushes ‘Other Mommy’ — Adaptation of Josh Malerman’s ‘Incidents Around the House’ — to October Release

Universal Pictures has moved the release date of Other Mommy, its forthcoming supernatural horror from Atomic Monster, from 8 May to 9 October 2026. The shift places the film in direct competition with Paramount’s much-anticipated The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, as well as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, the highly anticipated sequel from producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House — the mind behind numerous literary hits including Bird Box, Daphne, and PearlOther Mommy tells the unsettling story of a young girl whose family and home are haunted by a sinister entity intent on taking up residence inside her.

Malerman also released his first non-fiction book, Watching Evil Dead: Unearthing The Radiant Artist Within, just yesterday.

Leading the charge is Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (It: Chapter Two, The Good Nurse), joined by indie fave Jay Duplass (“Transparent”), Arabella Olivia Clark (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere), and Dichen Lachman (“Severance”). Horror savant Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) directs from a script penned by WGA Award-winner Nathan Elston (“Succession”).

Produced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse in partnership with Spin a Black Yarn, Other Mommy sees James Wan leading the producing team, with executive producers Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis also on board. Alayna Glasthal is overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.
