Trailer: Time-Twisting Conundrum Thriller ‘THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT’ Pushes Sibship Bonds to Unnatural Limits

Magnolia Pictures and Magnet Releasing have dropped the official trailer for Michael Felker‘s feature directorial debut, the metaphysical sci-fi thriller Things Will be Different, executive produced by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

The film, written and directed by Felker, follows estranged siblings Joseph (Adam David ThompsonA Walk Among the Tombstones, Glass) and Sidney (Riley DandyChristmas Bloody Christmas, That’s Amor), who rendezvous at a local diner following a botched robbery. They then make a hasty escape to an abandoned farmhouse, which serves as a portal to a different time period, allowing them to evade the local police. However, attempts to return to the present once the coast is clear are thwarted by an unknown metaphysical force, leaving the pair stranded on the land unless they carry out specific instructions. The subsequent events challenge not only the laws of physics but also the foundations of Joe and Sid’s relationship.

Co-starring alongside Thompson and Dandy are Chloe Skoczen (Earlybird), Justin Benson (Something in the Dirt, The Endless), Sarah Bolger (Emelie, “Mayans M.C.”), and Jori Lynn Felker.

Commenting on what he hopes people will take away from the movie, Felker says, “I grew up watching heady sci-fi movies with my nerdy family and talking about them at coffee shops and fast-food joints for hours afterwards … I also loved watching my favorite movies over and over again, talking about my favorite moments, and then watching them all over again so I can pick up something new on the 8th or 9th time watching. So, I made a movie designed to have that experience. It’s a heady movie where you won’t pick up everything it’s putting down the first time around, but you’ll have a blast watching it, and hopefully that’ll compel you to watch it again and pick up more stuff to piece together on the 8th, maybe 9th time. You’ll eventually put together a huge world just beyond your reach and bond with a friend you talked about it with at a coffee shop or fast-food joint after. Hell, maybe you’ll get matching tattoos after. I don’t know. Maybe that’s just me.”

We’ll leave you with the trailer below which provides a glimpse at how familial bonds will be pushed to unnatural breaking points when Things Will Be Different releases in theaters and on digital this October 4th, 2024.
