UK pop-rock firestarters The Wild Things return with a bang, announcing their scorching new single “Knock Down, Drag Out,” set for release tomorrow, 19th June.
Fronted by vocalist Sydney Rae White, with Rob Kendrick on guitar, Pete Wheeler on drums, and Cameron White on bass, the band made serious waves with the world’s first ever choose-your-own-adventure sophomore album Afterglow, co-produced by Pete Townshend of The Who, and their country folk collaboration with drag superstar Trixie Mattel on the hit single “Red Side of the Moon.” Over the past few years, they have also graced some of the most iconic stages in the world — Madison Square Garden, The Royal Albert Hall, Manchester AO Arena, and The MGM Vegas — alongside the likes of The Who, KISS, and Pearl Jam.
The band’s fiery new track tells the tale of a whirlwind love affair set against the sultry backdrop of New Orleans. Sydney Rae White delivers vivid, impassioned vocals with lines like “Your body is electric, flowers always bloom” and “You are a vision in light, make your move”, before launching into a thunderous chorus that refuses to be ignored.
Using the classic phrase “knock down, drag out” — often used to describe a brutal brawl — as a metaphor for intense, passionate sex, the track pairs cheeky lyricism with a confident pop-rock sound.
The single comes complete with a gorgeous music video, co-directed by guitarist Rob Kendrick and Marcus Maschwitz, which sees the band performing and dancing along to the track by the coast.
“Knock Down, Drag Out” is part one of a two-part musical narrative, with its companion track, “I Can’t Wait,” set to drop later this summer. Together, they tell the story of a fleeting but fiery romance. The band has intentionally timed the release so that the gap between the two singles mirrors the length of the fictional relationship—allowing the story to unfold and unravel in real time.
Following the release of both singles, The Wild Things will hit the road this autumn for a UK headline tour, with stops including London, Glasgow, Newcastle, and more. Full tour dates are listed below and tickets are available here.
